Letter From The CEO

As I reflect on the past year, one word comes to mind, gratitude. Everyone on the Delta Health System team-physicians, providers, and employees-have given 100% or more to “turn the ship around” when there were times our hospital system was in trouble. We are not totally out of the woods, but I can safely say that Delta Health System is in a much better financial situation than we were just a year ago.

Now, it is time to begin the new year focusing on growth, which includes physician and staff recruitment, maximizing and increasing service lines, and improving customer service. My goal for Delta Health System-The Medical Center is to be the best primary care hospital in the state with select specialties. To achieve this status, we all must participate as this is a team effort that will require the community utilizing our services and clinics. We understand that there are other healthcare choices but our board of trustees, senior leadership, leadership team, and employees will work harder than ever to give you the experience you expect and deserve.

This includes expanding technology and care coordination, continuing to reinforce and build a culture of excellence within our hospital and clinics, and enhancing campuses and outpatient facilities to better serve the Delta region. In the past couple of weeks, our nursing care team trained on and installed 190 new intravenous pumps to provide a more safe, efficient, and improved patient outcome. An example of technology at its finest with positive outcomes for our patients.

Another initiative, with the support of Congressman Bennie Thompson and Delta Council, is our participation in a regional healthcare study along with other Delta healthcare facilities to identify duplications and gaps in services. It is time to work as a collaborative unit in the Delta to share physicians in specialty areas as well as purchasing power. By working together, we can ensure that our community retains important healthcare services. We have reached out to Congressman Thompson and have received invaluable advice regarding federal grants and operational strategies.

Last year, I began meeting with community leaders to discuss the hospital’s strategic plan, our financial status, and plan for sustainability. During my stakeholder meetings, I stressed to the attendees the hospital’s value to the regional economy and how vital it is to use the facility even for lab work or x-rays for an out-of-town provider. I am proud of the hard work and efforts made by our employees to overcome the challenges since 2020. Thank you to all who have supported me and the healthcare team through the last couple of years. We have stabilized, so the next step is growth. I am positive and confident in sharing that we will achieve our goals. It is my intention that Delta Health System will be here for lifetimes to come. Together we can continue to provide exceptional care right here at home.
