Anthony J. Carter

Dr. Carter was born and raised in South Louisiana and Mississippi. He completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS. Dr. Carter went on to complete a Master of Biomedical Sciences degree prior to beginning medical school.

His medical interests include Primary Care and Sleep Medicine.

In his free time, he enjoys reading and spending time with his wife, Rebekah, and sons Alex and Ollie.

“I chose the Delta Family Medicine Residency Program because the faculty is always focused on how to help the people of the Delta. I know this program will provide quality training in primary care and rural health and allow me to make a difference in Mississippi.”

Jessica J. Jenkins

Home - Jackson, MS

Dr. Jenkins was born in Flowood, MS and raised in Jackson, MS. She earned a B.S. in Biology at Tougaloo College in Tougaloo MS. While there she joined the Jackson Heart Study Undergraduate Training and Education Center (JHSUTEC) Program as a scholar to prepare for a career in public health and epidemiology related to cardiovascular diseases. She then earned a M.S. in Biology from Jackson State University before attending medical school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Her medical interests include Primary Care and Mental Health Care. In the future, she hopes to continue to serve rural areas of Mississippi and those underserved.

In her free time, Dr. Jenkins enjoys spending time with family, working out, good music, cooking, and gardening.

“The health of the individual begins and ends with how a person processes the world. Without mental health care, physical and even spiritual health can falter. For me, I am excited to help patients integrate those qualities within the Delta Family Residency Program. In addition, practicing in the Delta will provide a chance for me to push myself to push myself to become a great physician and guide my focus for community engagement in a positive direction. My image for treatment starts with empathy for my patients and progresses to the multitude of approaches put in place within primary care.”

Abubakar T. Malik

Medical School - William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Home - Gonzales, Texas

Dr. Malik was born in Gurat, Pakistan and raised in Gonzales, TX. He completed his undergraduate degree in Neurobiology at the University of Texas at Austin. He attended medical school at the William Care University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

He has a special interest in Primary Care, medical procedures and International/Global Health. In the future, he hopes to serve rural communities.

In his free time, he enjoys fitness, traveling, hiking, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends.

“The people are the first thing that comes to mind! Everybody was so genuinely nice and welcoming. The faculty love to teach and I was impressed with the diversity and acuity of the patient population. Also, my fellow residents are really fun and an easy going group to be around.”

Dhruval Patel

Medical School - AMC MET Medical College, Ahmedabad, India
Home - Austin, Texas

Dr. Dhruval Patel was born and raised in a small town Palanpur, State ofGujarat. He completed his high school at V.V.M Higher Secondary School and went to complete his Medical School at AMC MET Medical College, Ahmedabad, India.

His medical interests include Hospital Medicine, Emergency Medicine & Clinics.

In his free time, he enjoys roller skating, hiking. He won roller skating state championship early in school, also went to Himalayan trekking multiple times and is looking forward to exploring Mississippi too.

I am excited to start my journey, to be part of the inaugural class of MS Delta Family Medicine, work with my fellow co-residents and be part of such a welcoming hospital system. I have no doubt that this is the type of environment I have been looking for toward my growth. Looking forward to learning and practicing medicine in the United States.

I believe "If a community provides an opportunity to learn from them, it's our responsiblity to give back."

Jordan C. Thomas

Medical School - Louisiana State University School of Medicine
Home - New Orleans, LA

Dr. Thomas was born in America’s most interesting city, New Orleans, Louisiana. He loved science from an early age and completed his undergraduate degree in Biological Science at The University of New Orleans. After graduation he worked as a scribe in the Emergency Department at a local hospital, which kindled a desire to learn more about illness and disease. Dr. Thomas went on to complete his Medical Degree at Louisiana State University.

His medical interests include cardiology, and sports medicine

Outside of school he likes to wrestle, spend time outdoors and on the weekends he enjoys reading.

When confronted with adversity he finds comfort in the wise words of Marcus Aureilius, who admonished, “Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present.”

Rohith R. Guduru Venkata

Home - Tirupati, India

Dr. Reddy was born and raised in Tirupati, India. He earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from RGUHS University, India.

Some of his medical interests include Primary Care and Pediatrics and he hopes to open a clinic and continue to serve the Delta.

In his free time, he likes reading, traveling, and spending time with his family. He also enjoys working out, trekking, and outdoor activities.

“I feel extremely blessed to join the Mississippi Delta Family Medicine Residency Program. I choose the program because the faculty is always focused on helping the people of the Delta and their knowledge of the requirements for the community. I am very happy I made the decision to be part of the residency training seeing how all my co-residents and staff feel like a family together. “

Eric L. Wilkerson, II

Dr. Wilkerson was born in Memphis, TN and raised in Byhalia, MS. He earned a B.S. in Mathematics with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Mississippi. He attended medical school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Some of his medical interests include Primary Care and Mental Health Care. In the future, he hopes to open a clinic and continue to serve rural Mississippi to the best of his abilities.

In his free time, Dr. Wilkerson likes spending time with his wife Ashley, his son Trace, and his dog Molly. He also enjoys working out, outdoor activities, numismatics, and cooking.

“I have been extremely blessed to join the Mississippi Delta Family Medicine Residency Program. The local community’s hospitality is unparalleled, the program instructors and staff are warm and eager to teach, and there is a genuine camaraderie among the residents. Practicing in the Delta will provide me with invaluable medical experiences and skills that I would not have been able to obtain otherwise. I feel as though I’ve joined a family rather than just a residency program.”
