Rehabilitation Center

Prior to 2000, Delta patients who required rehabilitation services in an inpatient setting had to travel up to 80 miles to find the care they needed. However, in 2000, Delta Regional Medical Center opened The Rehabilitation Center, the first intensive residential rehabilitation center in the Delta. The Rehabilitation Center at Delta Regional Medical Center provides a coordinated, intensive program for patients who have functional limitations related to physical impairment. A specialized team of interdisciplinary medical professionals helps the patient achieve a successful return to work and play.

The Rehabilitation Center’s primary services:

  • Nursing care

  • Physical therapy

  • Occupational therapy

  • Speech therapy

  • Nutritional therapy

  • Recreational therapy

  • Social services

  • Physician services

Common conditions treated at the Rehabilitation Center are:

  • Stroke

  • Arthritis

  • Burns

  • Hip fractures

  • Amputations

  • Brain injuries

  • Spinal cord injuries

  • Multiple trauma

  • Neurological disorders

  • Orthopedic disorders

  • Cardiac conditions

  • Pulmonary conditions

  • Pain syndrome

  • Medically complex conditions

The Rehabilitation Center’s patients receive intensive therapy and training in how to function independently once they return home. Depending upon the degree of their functional limitation, the team assists them in “relearning” activities such as eating, dressing, bathing, cooking, and performing household duties—simple tasks that might seem overwhelming without the coping techniques they will acquire during therapy. To help patients feel more confident about functioning independently, the Center provides a laundry room, training kitchen, and training bathroom where they can practice daily routines.

Each patient is different, but an average length of stay is two weeks, with three hours of therapy at least five days a week. Once the goals of the patient’s plan of care have been met, the patient can be discharged. After patients return home, The Rehabilitation Center staff stays in touch with them to monitor their progress and help them continue to build confidence.

Patients are referred to The Rehabilitation Center by their physicians. Insurance coverage for inpatient rehabilitation may be provided by Medicare, Medicaid, Workers’ Compensation, and many private insurance companies.
