Dr. Steven F. Chapman
Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon
Dr. Chapman began his medical training at Bowman Gray School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, NC, where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree. After completing a Surgery Internship at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, as well as a General Surgery Residency at East Carolina University School of Medicine, Dr. Chapman went on to complete a Cardiac Residency at the University of Kentucky, Albert Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, KY. He is Board Certified in Thoracic Surgery and General Surgery, and also has extensive training in coronary artery bypass surgery, cardiac valve repair and replacement, lung surgery for cancer or infection and vascular surgery for aneurysms and arterial blockage.
Dr. Chapman’s love for medicine is very apparent. He prides himself on developing a personal relationship with each patient. Being a surgeon is something he holds close to his heart. Dr. Chapman’s work philosophy revolves around each patient being viewed as unique. This attention to detail has made him one of the most sought after doctors in the state of Mississippi.
While Dr. Chapman’s expertise in his field gave him the opportunity to practice in any large market in the Southeast, he chose to bring his talents as a surgeon to the Greenville community. Dr. Chapman describes his decision eloquently: "I came here to build a program. There is such a need here. There is so much heart disease in this area. I could go anywhere, but I chose to come here. This is where the need is, and I want to be doing surgery to help make people's lives better."
Dr. Chapman is extremely passionate about his occupation. Having been here long enough to understand the health issues in the Mississippi Delta, Dr. Chapman hopes that he is able to continue helping the people in the area one patient at a time.
Dr. Chapman lives with his wife Michelle in Greenville. They are active in First Baptist Church, and enjoy spending time with their three children ranging in age from 3 to 25 years old.
