Dr. Merrell Joins Staff

Delta Regional Medical Center welcomes Michael Merrell, M.D., as a member of the Emergency Medical Staff. Dr. After graduating with honors from Rutgers University in New Jersey, Merrell received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Medicine of New Jersey in Newark. He completed his residency in Family Medicine in Mobile, Alabama at the University of South Alabama.

One of Dr. Merrell’s interesting hobbies is parrot parenting! He and his wife Jill have signed up for The Parrot Place, system that matches pet parrots with owners. They will be locating breeds for customers, and raising the baby parrots, beginning with early training, handling, and nurturing, so that the parrot will be the perfect pet once it is weaned and given to its owners. Dr. Merrell also enjoys auto racing and reading.

“We love it here,” stated Dr. Merrell, “Greenville is a great place to bring a family.” The staff in the Emergency Department enjoys working with Dr. Merrell as well, and have dubbed him “M Squared” (Michael Merrell MM).

Dr. Merrell has worked in the Hattiesburg area affiliated with the Hattiesburg Clinic and Pearl River Hospital in Poplarville. He also serves the United States Army Reserve as a rotating physician. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and a member of the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
