Whalen Appointed to State Board of Nursing
GOVERNOR BARBOUR APPOINTS WHALEN TO BOARD OF NURSING
(Greenville, Mississippi) - Governor Haley Barbour has announced the appointment of Mazie B. Williams Whalen, of Greenville, to the Board of Nursing, which oversees the licensing and practicing of nursing in the state.
“I’m proud Mazie has accepted this important assignment and look forward to her good works on the Board of Nursing,” Governor Barbour said.
Whalen is Chief Clinical Officer at Delta Regional Medical Center, where she has worked since 1975. A Mississippi Registered Nurse, Whalen is certified in Nursing Administration as well as Medical and Surgical Nursing. She is a member of the American and Mississippi Nurses Association and the Eliza Pillars Registered Nurses State Association. From 1992 to 2005, Whalen served as a member of the Delta State University School of Nursing advisory board and the Mississippi Delta Community College advisory committee for Federal Economically Dislocated Worker Act. In 2007, she was the Mississippi Nurses Association Nightingale Award Nominee for Hall of Fame.
Whalen attended Mississippi Delta Community College and graduated from Mississippi College with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She earned a master’s degree from the University of Mississippi School of Nursing.
“Mazie Whalen is a great leadership example to all of us at Delta Regional Medical Center. She demonstrates willingness to share her time and her experience with her fellow team members as well as with many state and regional boards that she has been asked to serve on. We are very fortunate to have Mrs. Whalen on the staff of DRMC, and are proud Governor Barbour chose her for the Mississippi State Board of Nursing Position,” stated L. Ray Humphreys, CEO of Delta Regional Medical Center, “We congratulate her on her appointment.”
