HEALTH AND SAFETY SUMMIT FOCUSES ON AGROMEDICINE IN THE DELTA
Agromedicine in the Mississippi Delta—Reviewing Health and Safety Concerns is this year’s focus of the annual Health and Safety Summit to be held on Monday February 25, 2008 at the Charles W. Capps, Jr. Entrepreneurial Center in Stoneville from 8:00 a.m. until 3:45 p.m. By highlighting health and safety concerns unique to Mississippians living in rural areas, the Agromedicine program will host this event targeting physicians, farmers, farm workers, health care professionals, safety professionals, environmentalists, and others. Sessions will focus on:

  • Tractor Rollover and Forklift Safety;

  • Farm Safety;

  • Chemical Re-Entry Intervals;

  • Stress in the Workplace;

  • Chronic Illness and Cardiovascular Disease;

  • Emergency Preparedness and Response;

  • Preventive Health; and

  • Wound Care.

This year, the Delta Health Alliance and Mississippi State University Extension Service have joined forces with the Delta Regional Medical Center and the Mississippi Developmental Authority in order to sponsor the event. New features of the Health and Safety Summit include FREE health screenings, including cholesterol and glucose screenings, from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and continuing education credits for physicians, nurses, and health professionals. The cost for registration is $5.00 before February 18, 2008 and $10.00 after that date and on-site.
