Greenville, MS – The U.S. Surgeon General has stated that quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health. So why is it so hard to quit? Most smokers try to quit 6-9 times in their lives. Many smokers are concerned about developing a serious disease, putting their family and friends at risk from secondhand smoke, or are just plain tired of dealing with this highly addictive and expensive habit.

Good news.  Through DRMC’s tobacco treatment clinic you can quit using cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and smokeless tobacco for good and move yourself towards a healthier, smoke-free life.  DRMC’s tobacco treatment clinic is part of the state-wide system of clinics supported by the ACT Center for Tobacco Treatment, Education and Research, a program of the University of Mississippi Medical Center. This program provides a well tested, evidence-based treatment including supportive counseling by compassionate, well-trained professionals, and medications approved for treating tobacco dependence by the FDA. This program has a long track record of excellent outcomes. Best of all, it is paid for by funding from the Mississippi Legislature and Department of Health, so there is no cost to the participating tobacco users who are residents of our state.

Quitting tobacco can be challenging. But with a little motivation and hope on your part, and experts in your corner, your chances of quitting are much improved. You just might be surprised at what you can achieve. This is a six-week Tobacco Treatment program and is offered free to the public throughout the year at DRMC.  The program not only includes education, but free medications and nicotine replacement products.  It is an easy program with achievable goals. In a follow up visit, participant Kendra Robertson said, “I do not think I could have ever quit smoking had it not been for the tobacco cessation program at Delta Regional Medical Center.
