Mazie B. Whalen, RN, MSN, has been named interim CEO/President of Delta Regional Medical Center, by the hospital Board of Trustees.  Whalen has over 40 years of hospital experience including 30 years in hospital leadership.  Currently, Whalen serves as the Senior Vice President Nursing Services at Delta Regional Medical Center.  Whalen will assume her responsibilities on April 16, 2010, upon the departure of current CEO/President, L.Ray Humphreys. 

Mazie Whalen stated, “I am honored the board chose me for the role of interim CEO/President.  I know that my experience will help guide me in my new leadership role.  As always, I am committed to ensuring that Delta Regional Medical Center continues to provide exceptional patient care to our community.  I embrace this challenge the board has bestowed upon me with wholeheartedness.”

Delta Regional Medical Center’s Board of Trustees Chairman Bill Schulz says, “Choosing Mazie Whalen as interim CEO/President was not a difficult decision for the board.  Mrs. Whalen has continuously demonstrated her ability to lead within the hospital to the board throughout her tenure as Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Clinical Officer. Mrs. Whalen’s extensive healthcare experience and years of commitment to the community make her the best choice.” As Whalen serves as interim CEO/President, a search committee led by hospital board Chairman Bill Schultz will work within the best practice methods to select a new CEO/President. 

Delta Regional Medical Center began its legacy of community-based health care in the 1950s as Washington County General Hospital. Delta Regional Medical Center, now the largest employer in Washington County with 1,055 employees, is a regional hospital with 230,794 patient visits last year.  DRMC values its responsibility to the community and has a total commitment to its mission of “improving the health of the citizens and the communities of the Delta.”
