Specialized Treatment for Patients with Acute Kidney Injury at Delta Regional Medical Center
Delta Regional Medical Center is the first hospital in the Delta region to offer Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) to patients with acute kidney injury in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Thirty-five nurses in the Intensive Care Unit were recently trained on the Gambro Prismaflex CRRT machine allowing them to give this specialized, one-on-one care to their patients. According to Donna Couvion, RN, BSN, Director of the Intensive Care Unit and the Heart and Vascular Center at DRMC, Delta Regional is one of only a few hospitals in the state of Mississippi to offer this patient-centered therapy. “Generally, these patients are very ill and to be able to offer this therapy at the bedside is a huge advantage in the healing process and greatly improved outcomes,” states Couvion. “This is one new and unique way we are caring for and caring about our patients here at DRMC each and every day. Our nurses in ICU are very excited to bring this specialized therapy to our hospital and to the patients in the Delta.”
