FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DELTA REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER PARTNERS WITH SAFEHEART HEALTH SCREENS FOR
COMMUNITY SCREENING

Greenville, MS – According to the American Heart Association, Mississippi is # 1 in the nation in deaths from heart disease and stroke.  Heart attack and strokes are called the “Silent Killer” because half of all victims have NO WARNING.  However, in as little as ten minutes you can determine if you are at risk for heart attacks, stroke and aneurysm with a state-of-the-art ultrasound screening.  Delta Regional Medical Center is partnering with SafeHeart Health Screens in offering five screenings that test for heart attacks, stroke and aneurysm.

The five tests that are involved are the following:
• Carotid Artery Ultrasound Screen – Identifies buildup of plaque and blockages in the carotid arteries.  Carotid Artery Disease is the leading cause of stroke.
• Carotid Intima Media Thickness (CIMT) Screen – Assesses the risk of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).  An abnormal CIMT indicates risk of cardiovascular disease.
• Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screen – Identifies any abnormal enlargements of the abdominal aorta.  Usually patients will not notice any symptoms of an aortic aneurysm until a catastrophic rupture occurs.
• Peripheral Vascular Disease Screen - Evaluates any decreased circulation to the lower extremities which may indicate a higher risk of heart disease and stroke.
• Atrial Fibrillation Screen – Evaluates the presence of atrial fibrillation (abnormal heart rhythm) which may lead to blood clot formation within the heart chambers.  It is also the cause of approximately 15% of all strokes.

The Community Screenings are by appointment only at Delta Regional Medical Center’s Pavilion Learning Center (across from the YMCA) on Tuesday, July 28th from 7:00am to 6:00pm.  These screens are painless (no needles), all five tests take only ten minutes and they require no disrobing.  Appointments are limited.  Call 1-866-548-3006 or sign up online at safehearthealthscreens.com for an appointment.  For more information on the health screens call 1-866-548-3006.
