Delta Regional Wound Healing Center Celebrates Anniversary

The Wound Healing Center at Delta Regional Medical Center, a National Healing Corporation Center, is proud to celebrate its 10th anniversary with an event that is free and open to the public.

On Friday, April 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the public is invited to a community open house at the Wound Healing Center. The free event includes refreshments as well as tours of the Center and its hyperbaric oxygen chambers.  During hyperbaric oxygen therapy, patients watch TV while relaxing on a bed encased within a large see-through plastic shell as they are surrounded by 100 percent oxygen at higher-than-normal atmospheric pressure.  Diabetic foot wounds, soft tissue radiation injuries and chronic osteomyelitis are among the wounds that benefit most from this therapy, which stimulates a number of wound healing physiological responses in the cells and tissues.

“Our Open House and free screenings are a way for us to give back and to thank the community during our 10th anniversary year,” said Lesa Wise, Program Director of the Wound Healing Center. “Our incredible staff welcomes the opportunity to share our facility and answer any questions. Wounds that fail to heal, and at their worst lead to amputation, have become a hidden epidemic as the nation’s population ages. We are prepared to meet the need for leading-edge wound treatment in our state-of-the-art facility.”

The Wound Healing Center at Delta Regional Medical Center was established to care for patients with wounds that have not responded to traditional treatment methods. Its mission is to improve the quality of life for these patients while reducing the incidence of amputations. The Center’s overall healing rate exceeds 90 percent with an average time to heal wounds of sixteen weeks.

The staff of The Wound Healing Center is comprised of nationally trained wound care physicians, nurses, and technicians who follow a clinically proven program of care specifically designed for each patient. A patient’s treatment program includes visits to the Center for treatment sessions and dressing changes, as well as instruction on home wound care. The highly specialized treatments offered include negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered skin substitutes, biological and biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies.

The Wound Healing Center, located at the West Campus of Delta Regional Medical Center, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  For more information, call 662-725-7606.
