Delta Regional Wound Healing Center Celebrated 10th Anniversary

Greenville, MS – Today, Friday April 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Wound Healing Center celebrated, with the community, their 10th Anniversary with an open house. The free event included wound evaluations, education, and demonstrations of the hyperbaric oxygen chambers.

Dr. Parvez Karim, Medical Director for the Wound Healing Center and Internist said, “We are the first center in the Mississippi Delta to start a wound care and hyperbaric center and now have over a decade of service to this community.  Our team provides quality chronic wound care management.  We are proud of our achievements in healing wounds and preventing amputations.”

The Wound Healing Center has accomplished a lot over the past 10 years.  The Center has seen over 3,000 patients with patient visits to the clinic at 43,000.  The Center’s amputation rate of less than two percent bests national healing corp.’s average of three percent.  In addition, the Center’s overall healing rate exceeds 90 percent.

Lisa Zepponi, Vice President of West Campus said, “After serving as director for four years and now serving as Vice President over West Campus it makes me very proud to see the Wound Healing Center achieve such a tremendous milestone.  I am proud to be apart of a team that provides quality life and limb saving wound care in our community.”

The staff of The Wound Healing Center is comprised of nationally trained wound care physicians, nurses, and technicians who follow a clinically proven program of care specifically designed for each patient. A patient’s treatment program includes visits to the Center for treatment sessions and dressing changes, as well as instruction on home wound care. The highly specialized treatments offered include negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered skin substitutes, biological and biosynthetic dressings, and growth factor therapies.

The Center also offers a hyperbaric oxygen therapy, an advanced wound care method.  During hyperbaric oxygen therapy, patients watch TV while relaxing on a bed encased within a large see-through plastic shell as they are surrounded by 100 percent oxygen at higher-than-normal atmospheric pressure.  Diabetic foot wounds, soft tissue radiation injuries and chronic osteomyelitis are among the wounds that benefit most from this therapy, which stimulates a number of wound healing physiological responses in the cells and tissues.

The Wound Healing Center, located at the West Campus of Delta Regional Medical Center, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  For more information, call 662-725-7606.
