Delta Regional Medical Center to host Mental Health Awareness Open House

Community event with mental health educational information and free screenings available May 22 at the West Campus location

Greenville, MS – In observance of national Mental Health Month in May, Delta Regional Medical Center (DRMC) will host a Mental Health Awareness Open House and Health Fair at Delta Regional’s West Campus on Thursday, May 22, 2008 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. The Open House and Health Fair will provide educational and informational materials on signs and symptoms of depression, alcoholism, addiction, and other common mental illnesses. Blood pressure checks and screenings for depression, anxiety, and substance abuse will also be available.

According to JoAnn Minor, DRMC Solutions Behavior Health Services director, “The Mental Health Awareness Open House is a resource for families who have loved ones that may be suffering from any type of behavioral disorder. Many people who suffer from behavioral health problems go untreated because they, or their family members, simply are not aware of the signs and symptoms, or do not know where to turn for help.”

DRMC’s Solutions Behavioral Health Services are comprised of four individual treatment services: addictive disease treatment, adult behavior care, senior care for adults 55 and over, and Inspirations outpatient counseling. Solutions has assembled an experienced and well-trained staff that includes board certified psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, licensed therapists, certified alcohol and drug counselor, social worker, recreational therapist, and mental health technicians.

Mental Health Month was created more than 50 years ago to raise awareness about mental health conditions and the importance of mental wellness for all. This year’s theme is focused on an essential component of maintaining and protecting mental health and wellness: social connectedness. The tagline for this year’s observance is “Get Connected.” There are many ways of creating connections that support mental health: Get connected to family and friends to feel close and supported. Get connected to your community to feel a sense of belonging and purpose. Get connected to professional help to feel better when you’re stressed and having trouble coping. Solutions Behavioral Health Services offers this open house as a way to “get connected” to local professional help.

According to Florence Jones, RN, MSN, DRMC West Campus chief administrative officer, “Delta Regional is proud to offer the families in the Delta quality inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care and counseling. While the decisions involved in the treatment of addiction, depression and mental illnesses are not easy to make, we take pride in the quality programs we provide that are personal and close to home. ”

Aside from Solutions Behavioral Health Services, DRMC’s West Campus services also include: Gastrointestinal Lab, Home Health and Hospice, Inpatient Rehabilitation, The Sleep Center, Outpatient Radiology Services including X-Ray and Mammography, as well as The Wound Healing Center.
