Delta Regional Medical Center (DRMC) takes its core values of caring for and caring about outside the walls of its healthcare facilities with the single goal of educating the community at large about key issues impacting their health. Our message to our community residents centers around the theme of ultimate control.
DRMC routinely hosts community based health fairs with free screenings to the public like blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose screenings. Health fairs traditionally include education on the importance of avoiding tobacco products and DRMC's free Tobacco Cessation Program as well as body mass index calculations and consultations with DRMC dieticians on healthy eating and positive ways to impact your weight. In addition to traditional health fairs, DRMC is consistently working with others in our community to get the message of health and wellness out into our community whether that is through a public speaking opportunity at an individual business, civic organization or church or through partnership with organizations like the Delta Cotton Belles on the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Lunch and Learn which takes place each October in conjunction with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
In February 2013, DRMC launched its Walk With A Doc Program in partnership with the Hodding Carter Memorial YMCA and The Greenville Mall in an effort to get the community to "get walking!" Walk With A Doc is a program where community residents join a lead physician once a month to learn about an important aspect of their health and the importance of walking to overall health, and then they all walk together. This program focueses on the importance of walking, not on a time or distance goal. The program is for all fitness levels and provides a fun, family-oriented way to encourage community residents to start moving and exercise!
